Places to explore in Khyber Pakhthunkhwa

Khyber Pakhthunkhwa (KPK) has been gifted with a rich cultural and tourism friendly environment. It has the potential of becoming a big tourist attractiondue to its scenic beauty, geographical location, climate and natural resources. KPK is exceptionally rich in tourist attraction, and is divided into 3 zones:

Northern Zone: It is a mountainous region full of natural picturesque valleys and has 5 small and big rivers.

Mid Part: It consists of Peshawar Valley which has been a seat of different civilizations.

Southern Zone: It features rugged, dry hills and vast gravelly plains with patches of alluvial agricultural fields.

Following is a list of some of the important cities and areas of KPK province:

Hazara Region: Hazara is like a door to heaven and hosts the world’s famous Karakoram Highway which starts from “Havelian”. The mighty Indus River also flows through this region and hill stations known as “Galli’s” and Kaghan Valley are the best known parts of Hazara. Pakistani and foreign tourists throng its cool and serene valleys during its sizzling summer.

Abbottabad: This is another beautiful tourist attraction and has two hills towering above it: Shimla Peak and Sarban Peak. You can get beautiful views of this region from these peaks and Shimla Park located on a nearby hill with a pine forest is also worth a visit.

Nathiagali:  Clad in pine, walnut, oak and maple trees, Nathiagali is the prettiest hill resort in the Galliyat region. Breathtaking landscapes, spring water and fresh air make it one of the most peaceful hill stations in Pakistan.

Kaghan Valley:This is the most attractive valley of Hazara and includes towering peaks of Himalayan Range, glaciers and water falls. Kunhar River which has plenty of trout fish also flows through this valley and has villages of Balakot, Kaghan and Naran.

Lake Saif-ul-Muluk: It provides an excellent view of the 5290m high “Malika Parbat” (Queen of the Mountains). This place got its name from a legend tale in which a handsome prince called Saif-ul-Muluk fell in love with a fairy of the lake and hence the lake got named after him.

Mingora: It has been an important trading center for the past 2000 years. Its bazaars are interesting to explore for semi-precious stones, hand-woven and embroidered clothes, shawls and antiques. The hills having the world famous “Emerald Mines” are also located to the north of the town.

As explained above, KPK has huge potential in terms of tourist attractions and after the recent 2013 elections in which Imran Khan’s PTI won, huge developmental works have taken place. The results are newly constructed houses which one can see on this page. The increasing attractiveness of the region also reflects on the rising prices of property here. So if one is interested in investing houses there, to which one can retreat during summers, should definitely do so now.
